Pelargonium Norland

Pelargonium Norland belongs to varieties with double buds, which are highly valued in home floriculture due to their high decorative effect. A delicate flower requires special care, which they begin to plan even before purchasing seedlings.

Pelargonium Norland - what kind of flower is it, which family it belongs to

Pelargonium Norrland is a cross between terry and ornamental crops.

Brief description, history of origin or selection

The main characteristic feature of the flower is large spherical pale pink inflorescences, which in appearance are very similar to peonies. Small leaf plates are oval in shape. They are painted in a delicate light greenish shade and are soft to the touch.

The Norland variety has double flowers

Growing Norrland pelargonium at home, care rules

If you follow all the rules of care, the flower will not cause problems and hassle.

Illumination and temperature conditions

Geranium Norland loves a lot of light, and ceases to bloom brightly and profusely if there is a lack of it. It is worthwhile to foresee the option of the appearance of burns on the leaf plates of the bush, and put the flower in a place with diffused light or on the eastern windows.

The room should be warm, but not stuffy. In the summer, it is useful to ventilate the shrub at least twice a week. In summer, the optimum temperature for keeping pelargonium is + 18 ... +25 degrees, with the arrival of winter it is gradually lowered to + 12 ... +14 degrees.

Important! When airing the plant, you should not arrange strong drafts, they have a very negative effect on flowering.

Watering rules and humidity

The soil must be constantly moist, so irrigation must be carried out regularly. Their frequency will depend on the season: in summer, in the heat, the flower is watered at least 3 times a week, but with the arrival of winter, the frequency of watering should be reduced to 1-2 times. To prevent excess water from accumulating in the ground, it is loosened after each watering.

The water must be of good quality and clean; tap water must not be used. First, for almost 5-6 hours, it is defended in a wide and shallow container. Stir from time to time to remove all chlorine. The water temperature should be identical to room temperature.

It is necessary to maintain humidity at 70%. To increase it, it is recommended to spray the bush from a spray bottle.

The soil for cultivation must be nutritious and loose.

Top dressing and soil quality

For feeding pelargonium Norland use only mineral fertilizers. Organics have too strong an effect on the roots of all types of geraniums. Top dressing is carried out in liquid form twice a month.

Important! Fertilizers are applied only during the growing season and flowering.

A flower needs a nutritious substrate. It is prepared by mixing light turf soil, peat, humus and coarse sand. The last component is necessary for good air permeability and exclusion of moisture stagnation. To increase the drainage of the soil, a separate drainage layer is covered at the bottom of the pot: expanded clay or brick chips, small pebbles, gravel.

Flower container size

The growing pot should be sized according to the width and length of the root system. You do not need to choose a container that is too spacious, this can cause flowering to stop.

Pruning and replanting

The bush should be pruned regularly to remove old and dried shoots and thinned out. For this, young lateral or internal adult stems are removed. This procedure improves the quality of flowering.

The upper part of the bush is growing rapidly, but the root develops more slowly, so it is enough to transplant once every 2-3 years. Geranium is not very fond of frequent transplants.

Note! When planting a shrub in a new pot, it is necessary to completely replace the old soil and fill all the voids between the rhizomes with a new nutrient substrate.

Features of flowering plants

Pelargonium is famous for its bright and abundant flowering, which makes the flower very popular. The first buds after wintering, the bush begins to dissolve at the end of April or in May. Flowering continues until September.

Large flowers of Pelargonium form lush inflorescences up to 20 cm in diameter. There are two types of petal color: pink and scarlet. Red Pelargonium Norland (Red Sport) has a different description of the buds from the pink look - they are smaller in size and not too densely located in the inflorescences.

Flower propagation methods, when it is better to do it

At home, the culture is propagated mainly by rooting cuttings, although sometimes the seed method is also used.

Propagation by cuttings

Cuttings can be cut from any shoot, but it is advisable to use strong and healthy biennial shoots. The length of each segment must be at least 10-13 cm and have at least 3 sheets. They are dipped in a root-stimulating solution for a couple of hours and only then they are buried in a moistened and fertilized soil mixture. The cutting will take root completely in 1-1.5 months.

Cuttings are the easiest way to propagate geraniums

Seed propagation

To grow seedlings, the planting material is soaked in a disinfecting solution and buried to a depth of 1-2 cm into the substrate. It is better to spray the ground with a spray bottle rather than water it. From above, the box must be covered with foil and placed in a warm and lighted place.

Growing problems, diseases and pests

The most common diseases of pelargonium:

  • Root rot - if untreated, it can turn into stem rot. The cause of the disease is waterlogging of the soil and hypothermia of the bush.
  • Gray rot is an infectious disease. It infects the bush very quickly and is characterized by darkening of the stems and the appearance of black spots on the leaves.

Flower pests:

  • Whitefly - eats the fleshy parts, which provokes wilting and stop flowering of the bush.
  • Mealybug - secretes white mucus, which then coats the surface of the leaf blades. Over time, they begin to turn black.

A plant affected by a fungus must be treated immediately.

How to deal with them

When fungal diseases appear, you need to transplant the bush into new soil. It is better to get rid of the old pot right away. The roots of the bush must be kept in a disinfecting solution, and the dead and affected areas must be cut off with a knife.

Important! In the fight against insects, it is better to immediately use special chemicals - insecticides.

Pelargonium Norland will decorate any interior with its decorative look. Simple care of the bush requires only adherence to the rules and the regularity of events.
