Adenium flower from seeds at home

The Kutrov family includes a plant called adenium, which is a succulent. The birthplace of culture is Central and South Africa. When grown in an apartment, a tree or shrub grows very small - up to 35 cm. Adenium also has another name - a desert rose, since the flowers are somewhat similar to roses.

Choosing a variety of adenium

Now there are a large number of subspecies and varieties of crops with beautiful flowering, so indoor plant lovers face a difficult choice of what exactly is worth growing. Popular varieties of adenium:

  • Arab;
  • Crispum;
  • Mini;
  • Swazicum;
  • Socotransky;
  • Somali;
  • Fat.

Blooming adenium

Most often they take for apartment growing: Skvazikum, Somali, Suchny or Mini. It is these plants that are considered the most unpretentious of all the abundance of varieties, and they bloom earlier than others.

Before figuring out how to grow adenium, it is worth learning about the sowing time.

Sowing time of adenium

You can plant desert rose seeds at any time of the year. The main thing is to pay attention to the length of daylight hours. Most flower lovers agree that the end of winter or spring are the most favorable periods for sowing.

Selecting a container for sowing

The smallest pot is the best container for seeds. In such a container, small plants will not suffer from excess moisture. The main requirement for the container is the presence of a large number of holes through which unnecessary moisture, harmful to the roots of the flower, will be removed.

The lid on the container is a significant advantage, because such a pot will act as a small greenhouse. At the bottom of the planting tank, you need to lay out the drainage mixture (expanded clay, pieces of foam, crushed brick or coal). Put soil on top and moisten it moderately.

Soil preparation

The two main requirements for earth are nutritional value and breathability. In terms of acidity, the soil should be either weak or neutral. Ideal soil components:

  • coconut fiber - 50%;
  • deciduous-humus mixture - 25%;
  • small expanded clay (broken brick) up to 3 mm - 20%;
  • foam chips - 1 handful;
  • baking powder (vermiculite or perlite) - 5-10%.

Important! The peat has a too dense consistency, which will hinder the growth of roots at all stages, therefore, it is not necessary to use such a soil.

Succulent mixtures are also suitable for growing adenium at home. Such a tool is diluted with crushed charcoal and coarse river sand that has been calcined.

How to properly plant adenium seeds

When starting planting work, it is necessary to prepare seed material. To do this, you need a solution of potassium permanganate, where seeds are placed for half an hour. Then a warm solution of zircon is prepared and the material is left in it for another 2-3 hours.

Then the seeds are laid out on the ground and sprinkled with a small amount of the mixture. It remains to put the container in a room where the air temperature is + 33 ... + 35 ° С.

On a note! A cooler temperature condition leads to the fact that the seedlings germinate for a long time or do not grow at all.

Sowing in peat tablets

Planting adenium seeds in peat tablets follows the same principle as in a container with soil. It will take a lot of space to arrange individual seedling cups.

When a flower sprout appears

When growing adenium from seeds, you need to know when the sprouts appear. If the temperature regime is observed, the seedlings hatch in the first 7 days, and sometimes after 2-3 days. When the seeds appear, you need to use a fluorescent lamp around the clock. The backlight time is gradually reduced to 12 hours per day.

What affects germination

How quickly sprouts appear from seeds depends on temperature indicators. Ideally, the room should be quite warm - 33-35 ° C. Achieving these values is not very easy, so you have to use the bottom heating to germinate the seeds. To do this, apply:

  • thermo mats;
  • reptile rugs;
  • warm floor;
  • heating batteries.

Transfer to a permanent place

When planting seed in one common container, a pick is carried out when 2-3 pairs of true leaves appear in the plants. The first pot should be about 50 ml. You can use disposable cups.

Note! If the root systems of the seedlings are too intertwined, they must be separated as carefully as possible.

The next time adenium is planted at six months of age. For flowers that have been planted in individual containers, this may be the first transplant. It is important to follow these rules here:

  • The culture is transplanted after it has fully mastered the available capacity.
  • It is not recommended to take a pot for growth, where there is a lot of free space. So the plant will not cope with the incoming liquid, which can cause the root system to rot.

Plants are transplanted to a permanent place from the age of one, observing the following rules:

  • Adult flowers are not advised to do very nutritious soil, since their nutrition is regulated by the introduction of dressings. In a poor substrate, caudex will develop better in adenium.
  • Plastic containers are great for the role of pots for this crop. For those who grow a flower for the first time, it is recommended to use transparent plastic to make it easier to determine the moisture content of the soil.
  • There must be a drainage layer at the bottom of the tank.
  • After transplanting, the plants can only be watered after 2 days. This time is enough for the healing of the injured roots.

What to do if adenium seeds do not germinate

In the presence of high-quality seeds, the lack of seedlings may lie in an insufficiently high air temperature. It needs to be adjusted to the optimal value. With sufficient heating, there should be no problems.

Important! If, with proper care for adenium grown from seeds at home, there is no development of sprouts, it is necessary to check all the parameters so that they are normal.

Basic rules for watering

Watering is carried out based on the conditions of detention. At high temperatures and intense lighting, there is a need for frequent watering of desert rose sprouts. The root system of the seedlings is very delicate, so the soil should not be overdried or flooded.

It is not difficult to grow adenium from seeds at home. If you follow all agrotechnical requirements, the plant will definitely bloom.
