But the name Vanka wet balsam plant got due to the observation of flower growers - the tips of the leaves sometimes "cry" with abundant watering (dropping excess liquid) or at high humidity (sometimes even before rain).

Description of culture

A bright bush from African and American warm tropical stripes came to Europe. Rarely, some species can be found in Central Asia. The plant belongs to the Balsaminov family, has more than 400 species, not counting the new varieties bred by breeders.

Wild balsam grows well in open soil throughout Russia. Its large bushes can grow over a meter in length, the leaves are large about 10 cm, dark green with jagged edges. The decorativeness of wild balsam is lower than that of indoor and garden balsam, so its cultivation is not so important.

Blooming handsome man - light, indoor flower

After flowering, the plant forms a green berry, which, when ripe, forms a box with seeds. With a light touch to it, it shoots out its seeds in different directions within a radius of two meters, which is why it has its own non-scientific name of touch-me-not.

Note! 1 g of balsam seeds contains about 2000 pieces, which remain viable for up to eight years.

Homemade balsam has dark leaves with denticles, their trunks are fleshy, light, most often in the form of a bush. A mature touch-me-not looks like a tree, but with age, the flower throws back its lower old leaves, and the plant loses its beauty. The flower is loved for its variety of colors, and hybrids can also complement the petals with contrasting stripes and spots.

Flowers 3-5 cm in diameter emerge from the axils of the leaves, covering the plant with buds all year round (with sufficient lighting)

In leaving, the indoor balsam flower is not at all picky. Calmly tolerates shade and partial shade, but still loves good lighting, it contributes to abundant flowering. Balsam is thermophilic; in the cold season, the temperature should not drop to 11 ° C. Loves moisture, in the summer the soil should not dry out completely. In winter, watering is reduced, but they make sure that the earthy clod does not dry out.

It is necessary to fertilize the plant in the summer period every 14 days with feeding with a low nitrogen content. The usual complex is suitable for flowering. There are no special requirements for the soil, but when choosing the size of the pot, one should focus on the development of the root system: the smaller it is, the smaller the pot should be. Plant propagation takes place using seeds or cuttings. The plant is resistant to diseases, spider mites can cause harm to indoor plants.

Important! In a large pot, the plant will not bloom until it has filled the soil with roots.

Garden balsam prefers partial shade and shade, loves abundant watering and warmth. More often, the plant is used as an annual, although many varieties of perennials that winter under an additional cover with insulation.
