How to transplant cyclamen: options at home and in different ways

This indoor flower barely reaches a height of 30 cm, has a flattened root with a diameter of no more than 10 cm. But it develops actively, so every year the plant needs a new container. For the procedure to be successful, it is important to know the rules on how to transplant cyclamen.

Plant transplant

One of the main comfort requirements for this flower is a small pot, which becomes cramped very quickly. It is advisable to transplant cyclamen annually. This procedure will avoid root diseases and stimulate active flowering. The process itself consists of preparatory and main stages, where the initial stage should be given special attention.

Flower splendor

Bush preparation

It should always be remembered that transplanting puts the plant under stress. Therefore, the cyclamen should be prepared for the upcoming procedure. First of all, they are determined from the time of the event - it must coincide with the beginning of growth.

Note! In Persian varieties, waking up from sleep occurs in different months, while in European varieties this phase is practically absent. The signal to when the cyclamen can be transplanted will be the appearance of new leaves on the tuber.

When preparing a plant, the following actions are carried out:

  • the flower is carefully removed from the old pot;
  • shake off the soil from the roots and examine them;
  • detecting rot and other violations, the problem roots are cut off.

Cyclamen taken out of the pot

The plant is placed for some time in a weak solution of potassium permanganate to disinfect the sections. Next, proceed to the preparation of a new container.

Pot and soil selection

You should not take a wide container, otherwise the plant will direct the main forces to the development of the root system to the detriment of the aboveground part. It follows from the fact that the diameter of the pot should exceed the size of the tuber by only 2-3 cm.

Important! Regardless of whether the container is new or used, it is pre-disinfected and only then filled with soil.

On sale there is a ready-made soil mixture "Tulip", suitable for flowering indoor plants. You can make a substrate yourself by taking:

  • 1 part of peat, humus, sand;
  • 3 pieces of leafy land;
  • a little vermiculite (vermione).

To avoid infections, to destroy the larvae of pests, before transplanting the cyclamen into another pot, the soil must be calcined in the oven for 2 hours.

Process

Having finished with the preparatory steps, they begin to plant the plants in a new container. The step-by-step algorithm looks like this:

  • a small layer of broken brick or expanded clay is laid out on the bottom of the pot;
  • fill the container with soil;
  • a tuber is placed in the center, sprinkling the bush with earth from the sides;
  • the soil is compacted and moistened.

If after watering the soil subsided a little, the soil is still poured into the pot.

Transplanting a flower into a new pot

Digging in cyclamen, the tuber is not completely buried. In a Persian variety, it should look 1/3. At the European soil-free, 1.5 cm of the top is left.

Home care after transplant

Even a well-adapted cyclamen is picky about growing conditions. When a plant is under stress, it should be given maximum attention, observing all the requirements of agricultural technology.

Humidity

Cyclamen prefers high humidity.In a hot season, you can spray with warm water from a spray bottle, trying to prevent moisture from getting to the growing point (otherwise the bush will die). The procedure is carried out while the green mass is growing. As soon as the cyclamen enters the budding phase, spraying is stopped.

Temperature

Indoor flower does not like heat. Therefore, in the summertime, the temperature in the house is maintained on the order of 20-22 ° C. In winter, it is lowered to 10-15 °, if the bush is in the dormant stage, then it can be reduced a little more. The room should be regularly ventilated. At the same time, drafts should not be allowed.

Location

Cyclamen does not like direct sunlight. Therefore, flower pots are placed on the eastern or western windowsills. If this is not possible, then choose the south side, providing diffused light. North windows are not suitable due to poor lighting conditions (especially in winter).

Comfortable location

Watering

The plant easily tolerates a slight drought, it gets sick from waterlogging. Therefore, it is better to under-water the flower than to overflow by adding water to the pan. The amount of moisture depends on the phase of development:

  • during flowering, the soil is kept moist all the time;
  • at the end of flowering, the frequency of watering is reduced.

In varieties that enter suspended animation and shed their foliage, the soil in the pot is periodically moistened so that it does not completely dry out.

Food

Once the plant is rooted, it will need feeding. It is carried out one month after placement in a new container, using a complex mineral fertilizer for ornamental plants.

The procedure is repeated every 3 weeks until the beginning of budding. As soon as the cyclamen blooms, the frequency of fertilizing is reduced to 1 time per month.

Reproduction methods

Newcomers, carried away by home floriculture, are interested in how to propagate cyclamen correctly so that it does not lose its decorative effect. Several methods are practiced: baby, sowing, leafing and dividing the tuber.

Seeds

In order to independently collect fruits from a plant, in the house you need to have at least a couple of bushes for artificial pollination. Therefore, it is easier to buy ready-made cyclamen seeds at a flower shop. This breeding method is considered the most optimal, especially for the Persian variety.

If a plant can be transplanted into a new pot in any month, then sowing is best done in August, following this algorithm:

  • prepare a 5% sugar solution and soak the seeds in it;
  • the seed that has surfaced to the surface is thrown away without regret;
  • then the inoculum is transferred for 8-12 hours into a Zircon solution (4 drops per 0.5 glass of water);
  • the seeds taken from the biostimulator are laid out on cotton pads and covered with rags of a bandage for swelling;

Important! In order for the seeds to take root better, it is advisable to germinate them, leaving them for a day under a dense cloth.

  • a shallow plastic tray (preferably transparent) is filled with a mixture of peat and sand, taken in equal proportions;
  • seeds are laid out on the surface and sprinkled with soil mixture with a layer of up to 1 cm;
  • the container is covered with an opaque film.

The greenhouse is periodically ventilated and the soil is moistened. Cyclamen from seeds at home will give the first shoots in a month and a half. The film is immediately removed, the tray is transferred to a cool (15-17 °), well-lit place.

Friendly shoots

The sprouts dive when a nodule peeps out of the ground, and 2-3 leaves are formed on it. You need to plant new bushes in small containers (for example, plastic cups).

The container is filled with a substrate of sand, peat and leafy earth (1: 2: 4, respectively). Seedlings are planted in the soil mixture, completely sprinkling the nodules with it. The first feeding of seedlings is carried out in a week, taking flower fertilizer in a weak concentration ("Tsvetovit", "Ferovit", "Kemira Lux").

In a permanent pot, no more than 8 cm in diameter, young bushes are transplanted after 6 months.In this case, the tuber is not completely immersed in the soil, leaving a third of it above the surface.

It is important to water the young plants correctly.

Important! To get moisture directly to the roots of the seedlings, use a pipette. At first, the soil for seedlings is moistened 2 times a week. In the future, when the seedlings take root well in individual pots, watering is reduced to 1 time in 10 days.

Children

This method is popular among flower growers, as it gives the greatest guarantee of survival. The procedure is carried out in the second half of summer, when several children have formed on the mother bush. Having chosen the healthiest minituber with a bud, the following manipulations are performed:

  • the onion is carefully cut off from the main tuber;
  • immersed in a substrate common for cyclamen, poured into a peat or plastic cup;
  • cover with a glass jar on top, building a semblance of a mini-greenhouse;
  • periodically, the shelter is removed and the soil is checked for moisture;
  • after 2 weeks, when the first leaves sprout, the jar is finally removed and the baby is looked after, as usual.

Baby's Choice

After a while, the seedling is transferred to a flower pot. On the 30th day after the separation of the baby from the mother liquor, fertilizing is carried out using a weak solution of mineral fertilizer.

By dividing the tuber

They try to propagate cyclamen in this way as rarely as possible, because they will have to injure the root. Cutting often ends in decay of the divisions and can even provoke the death of the mother bush. Therefore, it is recommended to apply this method only in extreme cases.

Important! To obtain a healthy cyclamen, reproduction by division is carried out only in the resting phase.

Prepare for the procedure carefully, do it without haste, following the instructions:

  • the day before dividing, the soil is moistened so that the tuber is easier to extract;
  • the roots are washed with warm, settled water, completely removing all the earth;
  • the blade of a sharp thin knife is calcined over a flame and allowed to cool;
  • it is better to divide the root into 2 (in extreme cases, into 4) parts; on each of them there should be a growth point and a "heel" with roots;
  • the delenki are put on clean paper and dried for 2-4 hours;
  • the sections are treated with brilliant green, then powdered with charcoal powder and left for another 18 hours;

Reproduction by divisions

  • disinfect prepared pots, soil mixture and drainage;
  • before planting the cut, the soil is moistened.

Plant care is carried out in compliance with the same requirements as for a standard bush transplant.

Sheet method

Not everyone knows how cyclamen reproduces from leaves correctly. If you do not take into account the peculiarities of the procedure, in the end you can only get a rotten plate. A leaf taken from a bush rarely takes root in water. It is not always possible to do this in the substrate.

Only European types of cyclamen can be propagated in this way - they form finger roots on the leaves. Persian flowers do not have this feature.

Leaf growing method

In order for the process to end successfully, the following rules are followed:

  • leaves with roots are not cut off, but broken off;
  • at the same time, a small fragment of the nodule should also move away from the plate;
  • then you need to plant the cutting in the substrate, deepening it, and cover it with a greenhouse.

All other actions are the same as when breeding cyclamen with the help of children. The leaf method is a quick rooting option. As early as the 3rd week, the stalk can sprout. It remains to provide him with proper care.

Cyclamen is a very beautiful ornamental plant that can delight with flowering at any time of the year. Having learned how to propagate and transplant it correctly, you can create a real paradise on your windowsill. Knowing how to grow cyclamen from seeds at home (or in another way), you can give loved ones a little blooming splendor
